These boots are made of suede and synthetic fabric, with plenty of protective plastic built into the chassis (heel cup, toe cap, ankle protector, etc.). These boots follow that formula, but I don’t care for them. I like 3/4-length ADV boots for all-round use (touring, commuting, light off-roading). Photo: Tourmaster Tourmaster Horizon Line Trailblazer boots The mid-height Trailblazer boots are decently waterproof. Like the jacket, I think these pants are well worth the money. But, that’s true of most ADV pants, and at $219.99, you can’t expect the same airy comfort of high-end gear. I think the Tourmaster pants are pretty comfortable, but you’ll still get pretty hot and sweaty if you’re walking around in them on a hot summer day. They’ve got to be comfortable enough to wear around-town-maybe not as comfortable as jogging pants or well-broken-in jeans, but you’ve got to be able to spend time in them and feel at home. It’s easy to ditch your jacket when you park your bike, but not so easy to ditch your riding pants, if you’re wearing nothing but skivvies underneath (my preference). To me, the mark of a truly good pair of moto pants is: They’ve got to become comfortable for wearing around off the bike. They’re also practical, with handwarmer pockets for your cold fingers, and thigh pockets that are large enough to hold your wallet. The foam hip pads don’t dig in, and the knee pads (CE level-2 SAFE-TECH) have a three-position pocket, so you can get them positioned properly for safety as well as comfort.Combined with a highly adjustable waist (with elastic material), these pants are just as comfortable as the jacket. The boot cuffs are zippered, and there’s a Velcro adjustment flap that can help you adjust for a tight fit to your boot tops, so there’s minimal flapping in the breeze. There’s four-way stretch material in the crotch and inner leg, as well as the rear waist gusset, the back of the knees and the lower thigh. Multiple vents (the upper thighs, and back of the legs, as well as airflow through the lower boot cuffs) keep you cool during warmer weather. They have DWR water-resistant coating, with waterproof liner and a thermal liner inside that. These have similar construction to Tourmaster’s The Trek jacket: 600-denier construction, with 1000-denier reinforcement at knees and seat. Photo: Tourmaster Tourmaster Horizon Line The Trek pants Oh yeah, and a thermal liner, and rain liner.

The Horizon Line The Trek pants come with reasonable venting, adjustable knee armor, and practical pockets. At $279.99 MSRP, I believe this jacket is excellent value for money. And honestly, the jacket still looks great, and works well. I think this is because I was sent a pre-production jacket, but was unable to confirm either way. Nothing came apart, but it looked just a bit sloppy. The only thing I didn’t like about this jacket: The material along the edges of pockets, etc., seemed to fray a bit. With enough pockets for all the stuff you accumulate on a multi-day trip (including handwarmer-style pockets, a sometimes-overlooked essential), this jacket appears to have been designed by someone who’s spent plenty of time on the road, someone who knows what’s needed in a good piece of kit.

I spent day after day in this jacket on a trip through Newfoundland last summer, in a wide range of weather, and at the end of it all, it felt like a second skin.

Combine that venting with comfortable four-way stretch material in the shoulders and accordion-style stretch fabric in the elbows, as well as mid-torso and arm adjustment straps, and you’ve got an easy-to-wear jacket. I’m no fan of zip-in waterproofing, I will say that the rain liner got the job done this summer, when I tested it (I still would recommend riders only use the liner as a backup, and bring an external rain jacket on trips).Īnd, on those rare hot and muggy mid-summer days, there are plenty of vents (with openings at chest, bicep, underarm, and a large exhaust panel in back). The thermal lining will take the chill off in late spring and early fall.

This three-layer system means this jacket is suited for most weather conditions here in eastern Canada. To make the jacket more weatherproof, there’s a stowaway inside-the-helmet hood in the collar, along with a removable Reissa waterproof lining, then a full-sleeve thermal lining. The jacket’s shell also has a water-repellent coating that repels light rainshowers. The shell is mostly made of 600-denier polyester, with shoulders, elbows and forearms reinforced with a 1000-denier polyester material, and external TPU shoulder armor. It is a three-layer jacket, with road rash-proof exterior. This is a standard textile 3/4 adventure-style jacket. Photo: Tourmaster Tourmaster Horizon Line The Trek Jacket The new Tourmaster jacket will handle all but the coldest and hottest riding days very nicely.
